What are the upcoming motorway closures and detours in Cyprus?

The Nicosia-Limassol motorway will have closures from Moutayiaka to Germasogeia, and ongoing safety barrier repairs and reflective stud installations from 9:00 pm to 5:00 am, Monday through Thursday, with detours via Ariadnis Street. Paphos-Limassol will see night maintenance from 8:00 pm to 5:30 am, excluding weekends.

Travelers in Cyprus should be aware of imminent motorway closures. Key sections of the Nicosia-Limassol and Paphos-Limassol motorways will be temporarily closed due to essential overnight maintenance work. Police are urging motorists to remain vigilant when traversing affected areas during the specified times.

Nicosia-Limassol Motorway Disruptions

Moutayiaka to Germasogeia Closure

Motorists planning to travel on the Nicosia-Limassol motorway, particularly the stretch from Moutayiaka interchange to the Germasogeia roundabout, will face closures. This section, leading towards Limassol, will be shut down from 10:00 pm on Monday until 5:00 am on Tuesday, February 20. Detours will be in place to reroute traffic via Moutayiaka, onto Ariadnis Street, through the coastal road, and finally via Christaki Kranou Street. The reason for this inconvenience is the installation of new overhead information signs.

Ongoing Safety Barrier Repairs and Stud Placement

Furthermore, there’s an ongoing project between Akti Kynourias and Germasogeia on the same motorway. The focus is on repairing safety barriers and installing reflective studs. This work, resulting in a partial lane closure, is carried out nightly from 9:00 pm to 5:00 am, Monday through Thursday. Despite the disruption, at least one lane will remain open, with traffic control in place to ensure safety. These necessary upgrades began on January 10 and are aimed to conclude by February 29.

Reflective Studs Installation at Interchanges

Additional work on the Nicosia-Limassol motorway includes the placement and replacement of reflective studs at various interchanges. Started on February 13, this task is scheduled for completion on February 29. It takes place overnight from 9:00 pm to 6:00 am, excluding Fridays and weekends. With approximately 500m of one lane closed, traffic management measures are in place to guide vehicles accordingly.

Paphos-Limassol Motorway Update

Road Surface Maintenance

The Paphos-Limassol motorway is also undergoing road surface maintenance. This affects both lanes and directions, with traffic redirected through alternate exits. The work occurs nightly from 8:00 pm to 5:30 am, excluding Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. These maintenance works initiated on January 29 and are expected to be completed by March 21.

Traffic Guidance and Safety Precautions

During these periods of maintenance, the Police have issued advice for drivers to ensure safety for all. Motorists are encouraged to:

  • Remain alert and cautious when driving through work zones.
  • Adhere to the advised speed limits and maintain them low.
  • Keep a safe following distance from other vehicles.
  • Observe and comply with all temporary road signage and instructions.

Travelers should plan their routes in advance and allow extra time for their journeys to account for the expected delays. The ongoing maintenance and safety improvements are crucial for ensuring the well-being of all road users.
