Cyprus Positioning as a Business Hub

In a strategic move to bolster Cyprus’s international business presence, the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, and Industry has joined forces with the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Keve) to host a business forum in Vienna, Austria. This initiative not only showcased Cyprus’s service sector advantages but also set the stage for Cypriot businesses to engage directly with their Austrian counterparts. Held at the Austrian Economic Chamber, the forum drew over 85 Austrian company representatives and facilitated one-on-one meetings aimed at forging partnerships and exploring new business avenues.

Economic Indicators and Stock Market Performance

The economic pulse of Cyprus can be measured through various indicators, with the Labour Cost Index being a significant one. According to the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat), the index witnessed a 5.6 per cent growth in the third quarter of this year, indicating a slight deceleration from the previous quarter. Delving into the index, there was a reported increase in both the wages and salaries per hour worked by 5.8 per cent, and the non-wage costs per hour worked by 4.8 per cent, compared to the same quarter in the previous year.

Meanwhile, the Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE) enjoyed a profitable end to the week on December 15, with the general index climbing 0.44 per cent and the FTSE/CySE 20 Index up by 0.39 per cent.

Brand New Identity for ACTA

The Cyprus Association of Travel Agents decided on a rebranding strategy during its general assembly. The updated name, “Cyprus Association of Travel and Tourist Agents,” reflects a broader spectrum of the travel and tourism sector within Cyprus, symbolizing both inbound and outbound tourism. The change aims to encapsulate the diverse array of services its members provide and to represent more accurately the tourism landscape of the island nation.

The newly elected President, Harris Papacharalambous, has expressed his dedication to championing the interests of travel agents and the tourism sector at large. With an emphasis on collaboration and collective effort, the future of Cyprus’s travel industry looks both robust and dynamic under the newly formed leadership.
