Deng recites his form of Far Eastern Cooking Culture
“Gastronomy is considered an art-form in the food industry today, a highly desired and skilled career. I believe world regional cooking is extracting the distinct flavors from a particular region together with it’s culture. It is the relationship between the study of the province, food culture image and styling centered around hospitality. A vital element of our rich cuisine is to be prepped. ‘Mise en place’ is a culinary phrase which means putting in place, it is the set-up required before actually cooking”.
Deng smiles a huge smile of satisfaction as he continues “understanding how diverse each regional Chinese cuisine is takes time and a lot of dining out. Color, smell and taste are three different aspects used to describe Chinese food as well as the meaning, appearance and nutrition of the food. Chinese influence is a strong link to our homeland culture. Every aspect of our kitchen is based around fresh ingredients, in my school we were taught always to achieve perfection, there’s no room for short cuts”.
Deng, studied gastronomy over a 10 year time span at an Academic Cooking School in China, furthermore trained in the regional kitchens of China. The talents of Deng fortuitously came to Cyprus, bringing his 35 years of artistic and culinary skills to the Salamis Bey Conti Hotel & Casino.
