In 2026, Cyprus will proudly host the European Council’s rotating presidency, engaging every district in a vibrant showcase of its culture and hospitality. With Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, leading the efforts, over 200 meetings will take place across the island, including significant events in the poignant district of Famagusta, aiming to unite the nation and promote its unique identity on the international stage.
Cyprus is gearing up for its pivotal role in the EU Council presidency in 2026, focusing on collaboration, technological advancements in media, and tackling misinformation. This period is deemed a “flagship event” for enhancing European unity, showcasing Cypriot culture, and strengthening communication through the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC) and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). President Nikos Christodoulides emphasized the importance of this period, marking it as a “flagship event” for both European and Cypriot broadcasting during the 92nd European Broadcasting Union (EBU) directors’ general assembly held in Limassol.
