The sun sets on the horizon and Esentepe’s deep forest valleys are coloured purple. With country music tones in the ears and a gentle breeze in your hair, we sit down at Tumba Restaurant & Bar and enjoy the magnificent views that the Cypriot evening hours offer. Restaurant owner and equal Esentepe resident, Şevki Nasipoğlu, says he loves his work. “You can not have a better view, and here there is always something going on,” he says. And it is true.
Tumba is the largest restaurant in Esentepe and with its extended terrace it has an impressive view of the scenic area. Esentepe is a traditional Cypriot village that in recent years has grown into an attractive place to buy property. Restaurants like Tumba, who from the beginning were the original Cypriot restaurants that catered to the local inhabitants, have become the natural meeting place for international and local guests that can hang out together over a meal or a few glasses of Efes beer in the bar.
The menu offers Cypriot food such as mezes, fish and kebabs. It also serves English and Turkish breakfast. It is open every day of the year. Many come here in the evenings to watch sports on TV or socialise over a game of pool. There is free Wifi and play area for children. The restaurant organises regular charity events and it is also possible to book Tumba for weddings and parties.
Meanwhile we sit and talk, a Swedish-Norwegian family walk into the restaurant. The son and his wife are visiting her parents who have a property in the area. Tumba is one of the favourite restaurants that definitely should be visited during the week. “We love North Cyprus, and one can not find a more relaxing place than Tumba!” they say.
