Tenth Ayia Napa Medieval Festival

It is the month of October and a very popular month for going back in time – also, going back to the future as Marty McFly discovered in the eponymous films. And, as this month is upon us, from today and until next Saturday the Ayia Napa Medieval Festival will take us to a time of lords and ladies, knights and princesses, and feasts and castles.

Over a week you can enjoy theatrical plays, with the Medieval monastery as a backdrop emphasising the theatricality of it all, as well as music concerts and dance shows, performed by groups from Greece, Russia, Italy, Ukraine, Romania, Slovakia, Germany, Holland, France and Cyprus.

You can also see exhibitions of medieval objects and people dressed up to fit the part in what is called the Streets of Crusaders. If you want to know what it felt like to hold down a trade at the time, then you can join in one of the medieval workshops, such as pottery-making and basketry.

And why would you go back in time without bringing back a souvenir or two? The medieval market will sell products like wine in wooden barrels, medieval food and other such mementos of way back then.
