Salamis hosts sizzling celebration dance

Afro-Carribean Latin music comes to Salamis this month with a sizzling three-day dance event, featuring the island debut of Italy’s La Maxima 79 Orchestra to celebrate World International Dance Day.

The April 28-30 weekend show opens with a 10pm Friday night welcome party at Salamis Club followed by Saturday shows and a live concert in the Salamis Bay Conti Resort Hotel ballroom, before winding down with a Sunday pool party.

The 12-strong La Maxima 79 Orchestra was founded in 2013 by popular Italian salsa DJ Fabrizio Zoro with Latin dancer and DJ Massimo Scalici because he was “tired of buying CDs of salsa classic style where out of 10 songs only one was playable”, and “missed the musical style and sound of the 70s”.

The orchestra released their first CD, Regresando al Guaguancò, in September 2013 and have toured Europe, including the Salsa-Trips Frankfurt Festival in September 2016, and Thailand where they are due back in Bangkok in June.

Weekend passes are priced at 90TL but discounted to 70TL until April 15 and tickets for the 11.15pm Saturday concert only are priced at 50TL or 70TL on the door. The event is organised by Salsa Jam in Cyprus entrepreneur DJ Salsero and Volkan, from whom more information may be obtained on 0533 868 3611.
