Project to restore Girne’s artistic identity

A Girne Art Museum project announced by the University of Kyrenia promises to restore the artistic identity of the town through exhibitions of artists from home and abroad.

The university board of trustees on Tuesday announced the move to renovate a late house near the Hirondelle Roundabout.

The university’s Dr Murat Tüzünkan said: “We plan to show work by all Turkish Cypriot artists and to create a hub for art lover which is missing in such a beautiful tourist town. We already have a collection of 50 works by local artists and will launch frequent art shows including work by world artists.”

The new museum is to be situated on Semih Sancar Caddesi, opposite the Hürdeniz supermarket.

The video below is in Turkish but shows many works from the collection.
