Nicosia Pop Up Festival 2015

This year, Nicosia’s Pop Up Festival has moved to City Plaza, an excellent decision on the part of organisers, NiMac (Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre). Not only is there a real sense of community developing amongst the participants, all 23 outlets are now in one place. Which means checking out Nicosia’s best new start-ups has never been easier.

“It’s great to be part of the Pop Up,” says Stelios Argyrides, clearly enjoying the whole experience. “It’s something very different; it helps bring people back to the area,” he adds, mentioning that such has been the success of the Festival that he plans to remain on a permanent basis.

This seems to be the general idea of the Pop Up Festival – not only is it working towards the combined themes of innovation, commerce, art and education, it’s also the perfect vehicle for revitalising the area. “I can really see the results,” says Xenios Symeonides, Festival Curator. A charming gentleman, he’s cautiously optimistic about the venture. “I can see results already,” he says. “There’s a real community atmosphere, and a collaborative spirit amongst the exhibitors, and it’s a great space for artists and creators to work in a real market and gain experience. And though the pop up concept is not yet wholly familiar in Cyprus, it’s certainly attracting the public. I think,” he adds, “we’ve done a good job.”

Why not pop down to the Pop Up Festival and see for yourself? There’s plenty going on in the coming weeks…
