Dancehouse Nicosia will get up close and personal with artist Stavros X Petrou on Wednesday when he will present his new ideas.
These new ideas will be presented through Petrou’s work under the name Interspace – which combines three separate and independent aspects of Cypriot tradition as one entity. The two aspects in question are that of the traditional Cypriot costume that men wear and the art of embroidery in Lefkara village, which falls under the umbrella of Cypriot basketry. The artist feels very close to the art of basketry as he was born in a community of Limassol which is inseparably connected to basketry.
In February 2016 Petrou presented an exhibition with the first version of his work and was awarded the Andrea and Mary Ladommatos Culture Prize. The official presentation of the improved work was held at the Wisdom, Art and Tradition Festival at the University of Cyprus in April of this year.
The event on Wednesday will be a presentation of the work of art, of the creative process, as well as of the research that preceded it.
Presentation of the work by Stavros X. Petrou. June 7. Dancehouse Lefkosia, 25 Parthenonos Street, Ayios Andreas, south Nicosia. 8pm. Tel: +357-70-005035.
