Music, fun and sport at Zeytinlik festival

Zeytinlik village is hosting a festival of arts, culture, sports and entertainment as part of this year’s 14th Olive Festival which began yesterday and finishes on Tuesday.

An awards ceremony for the International Olive Cartoon Contest that attracted some 200 entries from artists from 60 countries will be held on Monday.

There will be folk and modern dance shows, including tango and hip-hop, on each day of the festival and The Friends Line Dancers are scheduled to take the stage on Monday.

Live concerts, which are expected to start between 8pm and 9pm, by local and Turkish singers include reggae band Supernova tonight, followed by Erin Elizel, Grup Seans and Ahmet Evan tomorrow. Pelin Aydun, Oldüren Şampanya and Grup Frekans will perform on Monday, with Blue Tears and Can Gox taking to the stage on Tuesday.

Skeet shooting tournaments starting at 9am at the Rauf Raif Denktaş Shooting Range are on today and tomorrow morning’s programme, along with poem recitals and plays for children and adults. Cooking competitions are to be held tomorrow. Stalls laid out in the village square will be selling a wide range of handicrafts and home-made, traditional Turkish Cypriot food and drink.
