The TRNC will play host to round of a European championship this weekend as radio-controlled aircraft take to the skies.
A total of 41 participants from 12 countries will take part in two days of competition at Geçitkale airport, starting at 9am today and tomorrow.
Entry is free and competition ends at 3pm. They will be competing in the North Cyprus stage of the F3J Euro Tour – the Mustafa V Koç Soarist Geçitkale Cup 2017 – when model aircraft enthusiasts will seek to outdo each other with their aerobatic displays.
TRNC Air Sports Federation head Erbay Bayramoğlu, who organised the event, said that members of the public were welcome to attend the “fantastic tournament”, for which he had obtained “special permission”.
Mor information can be obtained by calling 0533 860 1985. Mr Bayramoğlu added that “full preparations” were being made to host a “major international Jet Festival” in the TRNC in May, also at Geçitkale airport, which will see different-sized model aircrafts fill the air.
He also said that Turkish Cypriot competitors had been selected to represent the Turkish national team at the European contest to be held from July 13 to 23 in Slovenia.
