Local seeds to be handed out

Local seeds are to be distributed during the Büyükkonuk Eco-Day festival this year when the National Seed Swap Centre project showcases their importance. A presentation is scheduled for 8pm on Saturday, October 10, open to all, at the municipality-restored Kemerli Konak in the village centre.

Project head Ali Özirmak said: “It is vital to protect this disappearing heritage of diversity. Home-produced seed is more successful, as it has more resistance to climate and disease. These varieties are often better quality and more tasty too.”

The Karşiyaka-based enthusiast will also man a stall and exhibition at the festival.
