Lara Fabian to close festival

Belgium’s best known female singer-songwriter Lara Fabian (pictured below), is set to close the 19th Gazi Mağusa Festival of Art and Culture with a 9.30pm concert at the ancient Salamis Theatre on Thursday.

The 1970-born star, Belgium’s best-selling female artist of all time, sold over 20 million albums worldwide including the English hits I Will Love Again, I Am Who I Am and the album Wonderful Life. Her musical education began at the age of eight at Belgium’s Royal Academy before her singing debut aged 14 with her guitarist father.

The Brussels-born singer later moved to Canada where she released her second hit album Carpe Diem in 1994. She was sought by Disney for the voice of Esmeralda in the film The Hunchback of Notre Dame and performed for a TV audience of millions at the 2011 Asia Winter Olympics. She also appeared in the film De-Lovely, a Cole Porter biography.

Lara Fabian, born Lara Crockaert, has also amassed a following in Turkey after a surprise duet of Make Me Yours Tonight at a 2013 concert with Mustafa Ceceli.

Tickets for the closing gala concert are priced at 30TL and may be purchased at Deniz Plaza bookshops, from Gazi Magusa Municipality or at the Salamis entrance.
