Girne (Kyrenia) Municipality have announced their three-month programme of cultural events, but are keeping their top act, a global star lined up for a September 27 performance at the town’s amphitheatre, a close secret until August.
Mayor Nidai Güngördü said this year’s slogan was “Arts For a Bright Future” and extended an invitation to “all the people of Girne and the TRNC and the families, youth, children, students and tourists of the town to share an atmosphere of tolerance”.
The peace-themed season sees an Ankara State Theatre production, Victory or Death, at the amphitheatre on Tuesday, June 20. The two-act drama features the dilemma of Ottoman emperor Süleyman the Magnificent, trapped between the ambitions of his two sons, the Ottoman court and palace intrigues.
The amphitheatre will next host a Ferhat Göçer concert on July 8 before a performance of Doves Without Wings by the ASHK Theatre on July 18 and a concert by İrem Derici on August 8. More acts yet to be announced will be put on at Ramadan Cemil Square in central Girne and on the seafront in the coming months.
