Right by the intersection on Kyrenia’s main shopping street is the family-owned jewellery shop Reşat. We leave Kyrenia’s scorching lunch-time heat behind and step into the cool air conditioning. In here the polished floors are sparkling in pace with the shining jewels in the shop window. Ayse, Valentine and Ali greet us and we sit down in the soft chairs. We start talking about jewelry trends and timeless designs that have always remained.
Reşat has a wide range of jewellery in all styles and price ranges. The high standard and unique selection of jewelry makes it stand out from other jewelers on the island. Every year they visit some of the best diamond and gold trade fairs around the world, including Hong Kong and Vicenza in Italy, where they scout out the latest trends and bring them back to Cyprus. Much of the jewellery is exclusive and only one copy is brought to the shop. In addition to gold and diamonds they also have sapphires, rubies, moonstones, peridots and emeralds. It sometimes happens that they design jewellery for customers’ requests, it is not uncommon that someone comes in with a picture of a beautiful piece they wish to have.
Valentine shows us some of the last incoming jewellery. A necklace, with matching ring and bracelet, is elegantly designed as butterflies in white, yellow and rose gold. There are also several colourful necklaces beautifully created as a wreath of flowers or butterflies. The diamond necklaces are light and stylish with sparkling stones in perfect rows. The shop also has a wide selection of engagement rings.
Reşat Jewellery has been around for over 36 years. The owners Reşat and Huri Altinör took over the company after Reşat’s father and they are today very prominent jewellers in Cyprus. Besides the personal service they are particularly appreciated for offering jewellery to all budgets and tastes. Customers are a mix of Cypriots and foreigners, and many of the tourists return each year to see what is new on the shelf. The adjacent jewel shop has a wide range of watches and glasses with brands like Gucci, Tissot and Breitling. The staff speaks several languages, including English, Spanish, Russian and Persian.
