Demonstrations, debates and exhibitions will mark International Women’s Day this week. Today, on the day itself, the Feminist Workshop will stage its annual bicommunal march, startyimg at 5.15pm from Osman Paşa Caddesi, on Lefkoşa’s Dereboyu, and continuing towards the Ledra Palace buffer zone, where marchers will meet Greek Cypriot women at the Home 4 Cooperation. All women are urged to join the demo to voice demands for peace and tranquility.
Other events today include a “silent book reading” organized by the Mağusa Culture Association. The event, aimed at drawing attention to women’s rights at work and in society, begins at 2pm in Namık Kemal Square, and books may be donated to hospitals.
A number of seminars marking the importance of early cancer diagnosis are to be run by the Help Those With Cancer Association (Tulips) in collaboration with the National Education Ministry. The first will take place today at 10am at the municipal facilities, Zambak Holiday Village.
Girne Mediterranean Lions Club stages a “karma painting” exhibition today, which opens at 4.30pm in Lefkoşa’s Atatürk Cultural Centre and continues during working hours until Saturday, March 11.
