Haji Mike to play venue in Lefkoşa

Greek Cypriot reggae musician and dub poet Mike Hajimichael, known as the “Vraggaman” of Cyprus, will be entertaining guests at Lefkoşa’s 1984 Bar and Restaurant on December 12.

Haji Mike, associate professor at the South’s University of Nicosia, began playing reggae in the late 1970s at Essex University, and began producing his own music by 1990 when he moved to London.

His style is described as a hybrid of Jamaican dancehall and Cypriot melodies, dubbed “Vraggamuffin”, and he has released or been involved with at least eight albums.

The Midnight Stories and Dub Poetry and Reggae with Haji Mike event at 11pm will see him present live tracks from his new release, Midnight Stories at 3am, along with other reggae selections. Tickets cost 10TL or three euros.
