Grand opening for Three Bears

The variety of food on sale in Girne District has received a boost with the opening of The Three Bears Shop in Alsancak which specialises in locally-smoked delicacies and traditional Russian drinks.

A family-run venture by husband and wife Vitaliy Medvedev and Yelena Medvedeva, assisted by their daughter Alyona, The Three Bears offers shoppers some 38 food products including a range of cold and hot smoked fish – both whole and filleted – sausages, hams, salamis, more than a dozen chicken products and even smoked hellim.

Originally from Kazakhstan, the Medvedevs say they have combined their knowledge of Russian-style foods with local produce.

A recent opening launch of the shop was well-attended, especially by members of the Russian-speaking community, and Alyona, a Masters student at Girne American University, was on hand to explain the products and help English-speaking customers.

“Everyone was keen to sample the various tasters on offer and sales were brisk,” she told Cyprus Today at the event. “It’s lovely to see such a crowd here. We didn’t expect so many people to come and wish us well today. It’s wonderful and an excellent start for us.”

The Three Bears is located at 288 Karaoğlanoğlu Caddesi (the main Girne-Lapta road) towards the western edge of Alsancak, and open every day Monday to Saturday.
