Film-making couple wins top US award

A Turkish Cypriot film-making couple have won a top award at the 48th Worldfest Houston International Film and Video Festival in Texas, USA.

The latest production by script writer Vasvi Ciftcioglu and director Dogus Ozokutan Ciftcioglu, a short film entitled Ordinary Trial, had its first screening at the festival last week and received the prestigious accolade on Sunday.

Ordinary Trials stars TRNC actress Hatice Tezcan and tells the story of a young woman questioning the meaning of life.

Judges awarded the couple the Platinum Remi trophy in the Black/Dark Comedy category of what is claimed to be the world’s oldest film festival, which usually attracts around 1,400 short film submissions and 550 feature movies each year.
