Visitors to Ozanköy’s seventh Pekmez Festival (Carob Festival), which began yesterday, are promised a traditional weekend of culture and art in the village square.
The festival, which aims to introduce the benefits of carob syrup and support production of the healthy food, open tonight at 7pm with a dance show by Girne Tango Club followed by a recital of village poet Osman Türkay’s work.
Tomorrow, the last day of the festival, will see a folk dance show, a carob syrup dessert contest and a presentation about the health benefits of carob syrup.
The night will end with a concert by local musician Örge Volkan at 9.15pm.
Also this weekend, Yedidalga public beach will host the second Verigo Festival organised by the Yeşilırmak-Yedigalga Producers Association.
Held to promote the verigo grape to the public, the festival will include events such as a swimming marathon and a surf show while offering grape sweets and the alcohol drink zivaniya.
The Geçitkale Culture and Arts Festival, which continues until the Sunday September 6, will see several live concerts on every night except Wednesday. For more information, visit the official Facebook page of these municipalities.
