Eliz sets sights on Danish glory

Turkish Cypriot tennis player Eliz Maloney Yorganci is hoping to secure a place in a top European junior tournament in Denmark, after reaching the final of a competition in Malmö, Sweden.

The youngster, only 15, and her Danish partner Olga Helm were the girls’ doubles runners-up at the hard court Euro Elite Junior ITF Malmö Open on Friday last week.

They narrowly missed out on the title in a closely fought final against Swedish 17-year-olds Ida Jarlskog and Kajsa Stegrell losing 6-7, 6-7.

Eliz also reached the semi-finals of the girls’ singles, breezing through three rounds without dropping a set, where she also came up against former tournament champion Ida Jarlskog, going down 2-6, 5-7.

Mother ilkay said her daughter had now returned to the UK, where she is based, to train for the Dispuk Copenhagen Winter Cup 2016 which starts in Copenhagen on February 15.

The rising talent thanked her North Cyprus sponsors Arden Gida Ltd, Atakom Ticaret Ltd, Metgin Ltd and Oero Trading Ltd and the TRNC Sports Department for their support.
