Eco Day Festival in Büyükkonuk the 8th of October

Now on Sunday, the 8th of October, it is time for the autumn’s big Eco Day Festival in Büyükkonuk. The village is the first officially designated ecological city in North Cyprus and is on the way up to Karpaz, between Kaplica and Bafra. It is one of our absolute favorites among the island’s harvest festivals and it is held once in the spring and once in the fall. Now on Sunday it is the 20th time the festival is organized, which resembles a huge market with lots of delicious local and organic merchandise for sale.

This year’s festival starts at 10.30 with a parade train and music entertainment. There will also be a traditional dance performance by “The Karpaz Girls” before officially opening the market stalls. At the Eco Day Festival, visitors can come and see how local dishes are prepared, how to craft objects and, if you want, try riding a donkey! The stands sell local delicacies like freshly baked bread, olive oil, olives, syrup-dripping sweets, pomegranate juice, local wines and grilled cornflakes.

There will also be performing on stage, with traditional folk dance of dance groups from, among others, Eskişehir in Turkey. Traditional music will be performed by Famagusta municipality’s Turkish folk music and Cyprus Airs choirs. Later in the evening there will be a concert of pop music by Group Barka, Sol Anahtarı, Gölge Ş and Kurtulan Express with Ali Altay.
