Cyprus from space

Cyprus can be clearly seen in this striking photograph taken by American astronaut Scott Kelly aboard the International Space Station. The lights of Lefkoşa and Girne are visible, in comparison to the darkness of the Karpaz peninsula. The Turkish mainland can be seen to the top left of the picture, with the lights of Cairo to the bottom right in the unaccustomed angle. Mr Kelly posted the image on his Twitter page last Saturday, saying: “Day 119. Starry night over Eastern Mediterranean lights. Good night from @space_station! #YearlnSpace”
