Cyprus covered in dust from Syria

A major part of Cyprus is covered by sand or dust traveling in the air from a sandstorm in Syria. According to information fighting in Syria has ceased because of the storm. The dust is everywhere, on cars, terraces and on the floors of the houses. The weather phenomenon is expected to continue for no longer than the end of the week. Motorists are advised to take extra caution as visibility is very poor.

Head of the Met Office Raif Ilker Buran indicated that this was the first time in 14 years that the country was blanketed by intense dust.

Meanwhile department chief of the TC Civil Aviation Authorities Air Traffic Control, Ali Uzunyayla said that flights from Ercan were continuing, uninhibited. He said that none of the flights had been cancelled so far due to the weather but delays were encountered, which is normal in situations like this.
