Crowds show up to summer festivals

A total of 800 people took part in a series of events as part of the ninth International Summer Joy Festival organised by the Lefkoşa Folk Dancing and Youth Centre Fogem.

Crowds flocked to the Dereboyu area of the capital to witness a parade of festive floats on Saturday. Children from Poland, Ukraine, Turkey and the TRNC then put on various performances at the Coşkuner Beer Garden while dressed all in white. The gathering in the capital was followed by folk dancing performances on Sunday night in Dikmen.

In a separate event, nursery and pre-school pupils from throughout the region took part in dance shows, face-paintings, theatre performances and concerts at a children’s festival in the Karpaz on Sunday.

Elsewhere President Mustafa Akıncı was a guest of honour as the Doğancı Festival of Art and Culture drew to a close on Sunday with a fashion show by designer Abdullah Öztoprak.
