Efforts are being stepped up this year as Paphos prepares to be the European Capital of Culture for 2017, Yiannis Koutsolampros, a member of the board of the organisation ‘Pafos 2017′ told the Cyprus News Agency on Sunday.
The countdown for the big cultural event has started, Koutsolampros said, noting that 2016 would be a very important year as part of that.
‘Pafos 2017′, he said, was as important as the EU Presidency and Cyprus as a whole, would “benefit tremendously”.
The projects that will be ready by 2017, he said, were the integration of the central squares and archaeological sites, the upgrading of the old cinema Othellos, the reconstruction of the shopping centre and the restoration of Ibrahim Khan.
Koutsolampros said that the programme for the 2017 events was ready. The official launch event will take place in late January next year and will be followed by 300 other cultural events. (CNA)
