Anastasiades says whatever is agreed will be announced to public

GC President Anastasiades stated yesterday that everything that will be agreed upon at negotiation talks for a Cyprus settlement will be announced to the people.

He was speaking during a rally, in Nicosia, opposing Turkey’s presence on the island.  Asked to comment on recent statements by TC president Akinci, who referred to some aspects of a potential settlement, Anastasiades clarified that “the positions stated by Akinci do not necessarily reflect the positions of the Greek Cypriot side”.

He went on to say that “we have on the table our proposals and their proposals. [Akinci] said what was discussed, not what we agreed upon”.

Addressing the GC refugees from Kyrenia, – Anastasiades assured them finally that “whatever is agreed, will be announced”, so as to avoid misinformation.

Asked about permanent derogations from the acquis communautaire and on guaranteed majorities of the population in the constituent states, he replied that “there is no such issue”.
