Anastasiades and Akinci to meet in Davos

President Anastasiades has indicated that this is not the right time to host a multilateral conference on the Cyprus issue, pointing out that differences still remain but that both he and the Turkish Cypriot leader are determined to work together at the negotiating table to overcome them.

“This is not the time for a multilateral conference, differences remain but we are both determined to work with mutual understanding to overcome the concerns of the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot communities,” President Anastasiades said after the last meeting he had with Turkish Cypriot leader, Mustafa Akinci, in 2015 which he described as quite productive and positive.

Speaking at the Presidential Palace after the meeting, President Anastasiades said they discussed the property issue and many other important issues regarding the Cyprus problem.

Invited to comment on the state of play of the negotiations and the discussions on property, he said that “we are at the stage of mutual understanding of the difficulties and we should work in a way to help both sides.”
