41st Anniversary of Peace and Freedom Day

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is preparing to celebrate the 41st anniversary of the 20th of July Peace and Freedom Day.

On Sunday the 19th of July President Mustafa Akıncı will address the nation on Bayrak Radio Television following a 21 gun salute at noon. His speech will mark the beginning of the celebrations in the TRNC.

On the same day separate ceremonies will be held at the Boğaz Martyrdom, Dr. Fazıl Küçük Monument and the Rauf Raif Denktaş Monument.

The ceremony in the old harbour of Girne including the air show performance of the Turk Yıldız Solo aerobatic teams (Turkish Red Stars and Solo Turk) will begin from 4pm on Sunday.

On the 20th of July the ceremonies will begin at 4pm in the afternoon at the Lefkoşa Atatürk Monument. The celebrations will climax at the Doctor Fazıl Küçük Boulevard at 5pm.

During the celebrations here a representative from the Republic of Turkey government and President Mustafa Akıncı will deliver speeches.

The President and his wife Meral Akıncı will also give a 20th of July Peace and Freedom Day reception at 8.30pm at the Presidential Palace.
